Alternatives to Using Logs

People have used so many different types of fuels in their homes for keeping warm, for cooking, and for lighting. One of the most ancient fuels to ever have been used remains in use to date and that does not seem to change anytime soon. Wood is very popular in our homes because it is easily available and it does not cost as much as other types of fuel cost. However, using wood as fuel means that there are trees falling somewhere to make way for wood.

It is an abuse to the environment to keep felling trees for the sake of fuel when we can have other alternatives. In an effort to keep an eco friendly world as per the Kyoto protocol, forests are some of the most important resources which need protection and falling trees for logs does not help any bit. There are other methods of sustaining our fuel needs when we can’t afford gas and other convenient fuels.

Let’s face it, we can’t completely fail to use wood in our industries, but what matters is what we are doing to maintain a balance with regard to maintaining the forests. Waste from wood carvings like saw dust and wood chippings are very useful in making long lasting and more eco friendlier fuel. They can be combined with glue and subjected to overheating to form compact chip boards which can be used economically as fuels in our homes. (more...)

Preventing Pesky Garden Pests from Damaging your Garden

Those who work hard to create a beautiful garden do not want their hard work to be damaged and destroyed by pesky garden pests. Many people believe that insects in general are harmful to their garden and should be kept out at all cost. The fact is that some insects are indeed destructive and are garden pests while other insects may be perfectly harmless and are needed in order to make your garden bloom. Some insects are needed to pollinate plants in your garden while others can keep garden pests to a minimum.

It is very important for you to understand while garden inhibitors are harmful and which are harmless and needful in your garden. This is especially important when entering into a pest control contract with a pest control professional. Only by knowing the importance of certain garden inhibitors will you be able to determine if they should be eradicated by the pest control professional.

You do not want your pest control professional to destroy the garden inhibitors that are important to the healthy development, that keep real garden pests to a minimum, and that pollinate other plants in your garden. You do not want the useful inhibitors to be destroyed with the harmful ones. (more...)

Storing Your Equipment in Your Wooden Shed

A freestanding building that stands on your property and is made of light materials such as wood is referred to as a wooden shed. These come in handy for homeowners that have property items such as lawn care equipment or gardening tools, that they need to store outside of the home.

Wooden sheds can be used to store many items depending on the size and space offered inside. Rain and other types of weather can damage equipment or product such as potting soil, feed, or fertilizer. Even though many of these things will be protected with a tarp or a tent, some like the lawn mower can be damaged if the weather was to make its way into the engine. Therefore wooden sheds are a great asset for any homeowners with free standing equipment.

Homeowners who prefer to have a nice vegetable or flower garden may run into the problem of storing their garden tools or fertilizer and seeds. Even though a watering can, like many other garden tools, are easy stored because of their size, they must still be stored where the elements of weather cannot penetrate them and cause rust to build up. Once a tool is damaged with rust, it is very hard to have it work the same again. Rust can cause the watering can to be of no use when watering your plants due to excess build-up. (more...)

Planning Your Garden Oasis

A garden is a place to relax and enjoy nature. Gardens not only provide leisure and activity for many people, they can be a source of pride and even a source of food. To get the most out of your garden, plan and plant accordingly.

Birds are a welcome addition to any outdoor space. Birds are lovely to watch and hear. If you have existing trees in your yard, hang bird feeders with various types of wild bird food in them. By choosing different varieties of food you will attract different types of birds.

If you are starting your garden from an empty lot, a lot of planning is required. Before planting any trees, estimate how large the tree will grow over its lifetime. Space it accordingly. If you don't want to block your view or the sunlight from entering through your windows, be sure to plant your trees away from windows. (more...)
